The Biomedical Engineering Technology program will provide you with fundamental knowledge and hands-on experience with electronics, microcontroller applications, computer network systems and medical imaging systems. You'll also become familiar with medical laboratory practices, anatomy, physiology and health technology management.
The BCIT Biomedical Engineering Technology program is the only one of its kind offered in BC and the only one in Canada that is specifically targeted to both hospital and medical device industries. Our students have access to BCIT's extensive array of health technology equipment, which prepares them for the workforce as soon as they graduate.
Graduates of this program are part of an integrated health care team who install and maintain this equipment as well as their supporting computer systems. Graduates also assist other health care professionals in the optimization of equipment usage. The coordinated use and maintenance of this equipment has to be done in accordance with applicable codes, statutes and associated regulations.
This program is a great place for those who want to help others, have an interest in technology and enjoy a career where no two days are the same. As an interdisciplinary program, BMET teaches students the principles of engineering and how to integrate them with healthcare concepts. Students can expect to learn about various pieces of hospital equipment including how to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain that equipment. This will be reinforced by providing students with ample hands-on opportunities and virtual reality training sessions.
Graduates may be able to enter 3rd year of the Durham HCTM degree program
Centennial College's Biomedical Engineering Technology program has been designed to meet the need for qualified professionals caused by the merger between the biomedical equipment industry and the engineering and scientific disciplines. These collaborations have created beneficial innovations for both health care and society, and require the industry to meet the challenge of offering a range of quality products. Artificial organs, prostheses and medical instruments wouldn't exist without biomedical engineering.
The Biomedical Engineering Technology (Fast Track) program will be beneficial if you have a college or university electronics background. Your past education will allow you direct admission into the second year (third semester) of this three-year diploma program to receive an advanced diploma in two years (four semesters).
The BTech degree has been developed to help you bridge the gap between the job you started as a technologist and a career in management.
